@brgarra
Between 2020 and 2022, I advised on the planning and execution of integrated marketing and communications campaigns and engagement strategies to raise awareness of Garra and its programs. Garra is a community-based organization aimed at increasing the economic and political power of Brazilian immigrant women living in New York City. At Garra, I was responsible for:
Content creation and coordination (visual and written)
Website maintenance (created an optimized, user-friendly site in 2021)
Social media strategy and advice on best practices
Video marketing production
Copy translation (English to Portuguese, and vice versa)
Thought leadership pieces that are relevant to Brazilian immigrant women in NYC
I also co-wrote our Women With Garra 2020 Book, telling stories of Brazilian immigrant women that had a substantial impact on their community. In 2020, I wrote about Juliana de Andrade Silva, a nurse who worked on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic in Elmhurst, Queens.
In 2021, I wrote another chapter. This time, telling the story of Cleusa Paula, an esthetician who moved to NYC in 1996. Cleusa is also my mom! In addition to writing Cleusa’s chapter, I was responsible for producing and outlining the book, ensuring the cover, colors, and overall aesthetic matched the organization’s branding and the women’s stories.
Between 2020 and 2022, I hosted workshops and social media live events that promote professional, personal, and academic growth, such as the aGARRAndo o Futuro (reaching for the future) series. Examples include:
Discussions with professionals and recruiters sharing tips to excel in the job search
Workshops on LinkedIn best practices
Spoke at the Brazilian Consulate in the Spring of 2022, sharing with fellow Brazilian immigrant women tips on using LinkedIn during their job search, how to effectively network, and more.
